The 24th International Book Fair Santo Domingo 2022 (Dominican Republic) will be held in Ciudad Colonial (Santo Domingo) from 23 April to 2 May. This year's theme is “Ven al libro” (Come to the book) and the special guest is the European Union.
As special guest, the EU will hold a pavilion which will be showcasing a collection of books by writers who have won the European Union Prize for Literature.
In addition, three EUPL laureates will come in person to the Book Fair this weekend (30 April - 1 May) to conduct interviews:
- Giovanni Dozzini, Italian winner from 2019
- Jan Carson, Irish winner from 2019
- Kallia Papadaki, Greek winner from 2017
Giovanni Dozzini will be interviewed about the daily life of African migrants in Italy; about hope, fear and insecurity in a foreign land, the main themes of his award-winning novel "E Baboucar guidava la fila" (And Baboucar led the line).
Jan Carson will be interviewed about the years of conflict in her native Northern Ireland and how the open wounds of the past can make violence flare up again.
Finally, Kallia Papadaki, a Greek expatriate in the United States, will talk about the American dream through the eyes of several generations of Greeks in the US, and about human dignity and uniqueness.
